Electronic Health Records (EHR) and other hospital information systems generate and manage clinical and operational data in disparate silos, making it difficult to integrate and reuse. To bridge the gap between making data Findable and Accessible and ensure their healthcare data becomes genuinely Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR), hospitals are required to invest substantial resources in technology, processes and people.

MINE is a Modular INtegration Environment for healthcare data that aims to provide a modern data operations stack for a hospital to scale with growing internal and external demands for data. Built on open-source software and best practices, MINE fluently connects data requesters with the hospital’s data governance and data team, promoting both efficiency and transparency. Equipped with services and tools organized into modular building blocks, MINE is a future-proof platform that enables hospitals to implement robust data governance, advanced data operations, and multi-modal data management.

The goal in MINE-HD is to develop a local data platform that empowers hospitals with capabilities to maximize the value of their healthcare data. The platform aims to streamline all the steps in the process from data request to data delivery. This results in:

  • Fewer human errors through automation and standardized workflows
  • Improved data quality by prioritizing data modeling and validation
  • Reduced risks of security issues by implementing strong safeguards against inappropriate data sharing
  • Enhanced data governance with clear roles, responsibilities, and compliance measures
  • Optimal use of scarce IT resources to scale with increasing demands, also driven by the European Health Data Space (EHDS)

As a local environment for working with health data, MINE-HD addresses issues around data access, scalability, and governance.
